Spring Term Newsletter 2012

Dear Parents and Pupils

May I first wish you all healthy and happy New Year.   I hope you had a wonderful Christmas.  Thank you for all my cards and presents.  I have been thoroughly spoilt.

Spring Term Dates:

Spring Term Commences:            Monday 9th January 2012
Half Term:                                       Monday 13th -19th Feb 2012
End of Spring Term:                       Saturday 31st March 2012

Last Term’s News ...

Wow – what a busy term we had!!  We have had a jam packed term with an ISTD exam session, ‘LBDA’s Got Talent’, a trip to the Ashcroft Theatre Pantomime and Pyjama week as well as many pupils appearing on stage and screen.

ISTD Exam Session ...

Many pupils took their modern and tap exams this term and I have now received the results which were outstanding with all pupils receiving Distinctions or Merits.  We had many of our younger pupils taking their first exam and I was so proud of the way they all coped with the experience and each and every one performed to their very best ability – well done!! I look forward to handing out the results this term.

LBDA’s Got Talent ...

‘LBDA’s Got Talent’ was once again a huge success and really displayed the calibre of talent we have at the school.  The judges were blown away by the high standard and variety of acts as well as commenting on the wonderful atmosphere of the event.  The first place winners for each category were as follows:

6 years and under:          Scarlett Flannery
7-10 years:                        Maddie Flannery and Sadie Byers
11-13 years:                      India Roberts and Bella Mort
14 years and over:           Grace Bryan

Overall Winner:                India Roberts

Well done to everyone who participated – I was so proud of you all for making the effort.  Every single person looked like they were having a brilliant time which was so lovely to watch.

As well as demonstrating individual’s talents the event (combined with the PJ week and the shoe fund money) also raised £712.34 for Great Ormond Street Children’s Charity.   Every year we beat our previous year’s amount and I am so grateful to you all for supporting our charity events – thank you all so much.   A special thanks to Nancy Collins, Cressie Helmer, Ruth Shaw and Soulla Ripley who generously donated prizes for the raffle and to Tania Fisher for making all the delicious fairy cakes!

Pyjama Week ...

Pupils and teachers all wore their pyjamas to class for the whole of the last week of term.  It was great fun – and also very comfortable!  This event raised over £200 for Great Ormond Street so thank you all for taking part.

Panto Trip ...

Miss Katie and myself took 20 pupils to see the pantomime ‘Alladin’ at the Ashcroft Theatre, Croydon.  The pantomime was excellent and well worth a visit – especially as you will also see 6 LBDA pupils appearing on stage.  The children who came on the trip behaved impeccably and a great afternoon was had by all.

Pupil’s Achievements ...

This term LBDA pupils have been extremely busy and I would like to mention the following pupils who have appeared on stage and screen this term:

·         Sadie Byers, Maddie Flannery, Lily Davies, Matthew Shelton, Mitzi Isted and Macy Bird who successfully auditioned for this year’s production of ‘Alladin’ at the Ashcroft Theatre, Croydon.

·         Luke Marks who successfully auditioned for ‘An Inspector Calls’ at the Churchill Theatre, Bromley.

·         Ethan Galloway who appeared in ‘Oliver’ at the Bromley Little Theatre.

·         Miss Katie, Emily O’Connor, Helen Cheesman and  Hannah Boreland who appeared in the TV advertisement for playstation’s new game ‘Dance Star Party’ which was aired before the most recent series of ‘The Only Way is Essex’.

·         Talia Palamathanan appeared in a TV commercial this term for Tesco’s!

Christmas Party ...

Over 70 of our junior pupils joined us on the last day of term to celebrate Christmas.  The party was run by ‘Kt’s Parties’ and a great time was had all by all!  Thank you to Ruth Shaw and India who came and did face painting on all the children!  Father Christmas even popped in for a mince pie and to deliver some presents to all the children.  It was a great way to end the term!

The Term Ahead ...

No doubt the Spring term will be just as fun and busy whilst pupils prepare for their LAMDA exams and another ISTD exam session (dates TBC)

Musical Extravaganza – July 15th 2012 ...

All Musical Production, drama and singing pupils will also be working on their pieces for the Summer Show at the Stag Theatre, Sevenoaks “An Evening of Musical Theatre”.  This show will be performed on Sunday 15th July and will also feature some of the ‘LBDA’s Got Talent’ winners.

Singing Lessons ...

I would also like to welcome a new member of staff – Stephanie Trott (ex leading lady in ‘Hairspray’ in the West End) is joining our happy team to teach singing classes and Pre Senior  Musical Production.  Stephanie has a wealth of experience in the industry.  She covered the singing classes last term and proved extremely popular so we are thrilled to have her join us.

New Class ...

Due to the popularity of the singing classes we now run them on 2 nights of the week.  There are only limited spaces available so if you would like your child to join a class please let me know ASAP and I will try my best to accommodate them.

We are also starting a new singing class for pupils in School Years 2 and 3.  This will be on a Friday at 4 – 4.30pm.  Again please let me know as soon as possible if you would like your child to have a place.  Places are limited and will be given out on a ‘first come, first served basis’.

Easter Party ...

We will be running another ‘Easter Party’ this year on Saturday 24th March for all pupils in year 6 and below so put the date in your diary.

I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and a well deserved break.  Thank you all for your continued support.

Much love

Miss Laura x
